CHILD POVERTY STATISTICS
Child poverty in New Zealand is an ongoing issue. More than 250,000 children were recorded living in poverty due to housing issues in 2018. That is 1 in 5 young New Zealand children. In terms of material hardship, over 150,000 young children are dealing with this issue in particular, meaning they go without six essential items, including enough food, shoes, warm clothes, and a bed to sleep in.
