UPDATE 1: 25 MAY 2021
We have begun moving forward into the deep end of our project, after approaching Mr. Kirk we have arranged to present at the prep school assembly next Wednesday. We have also arranged to place a short blurb directed at parents that asks them to bring in clothes to bins placed in the reception area of the prep school. For the assembly, we prepared a short, 40 second video that is specifically aimed for the children. Moving forward, we hope that this encourages the children to bring in their clothes so we can advance into the next stages of our project, which include collecting and distributing the clothing. The video presentation to the prep school is available for viewing under the videos tab.
UPDATE 2: 17 JUNE 2021
We have successfully accumulated a large number of clothing items including shoes and high-quality puffer jackets. We then went through and sorted the clothing into different categories including splitting them into what would be considered feminine, masculine and gender-neutral. From this, we split the clothing into winter wears and summer wears. We are continuing to receive large numbers of clothing still. Our next steps are to contact the school we are planning on distributing these clothes to and setting a date. Photos related to this can be seen below.
UPDATE 3: 30 JUNE
Today we completed our project. We spent time packing up the clothing and contacting Kahurangi school, who eagerly accepted our offer. Today, we travelled to the school to meet with the principal, Kryan Smith. She was so kind and welcoming and insisted on taking photos for their school newsletter. She told us she plans on setting up a collection point somewhere in the school. Pictures related to this update can be seen below. Though it is sad to end this journey, we are very proud of what we accomplished in this short time.
